Ingredients:
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- Assorted food coloring
- Edible candy eyes
- Black decorating gel
Instructions:
In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt
In a separate large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy
Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined
Gradually add the dry ingredient mixture to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined
Divide the cookie dough into separate portions and tint each portion with different food coloring to create vibrant colors
Wrap each colored dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour
Preheat the oven to 350F 175C and line baking sheets with parchment paper
Take a small amount of each colored dough and press them together to form a ball with various colors
Place the dough balls onto the prepared baking sheets, leaving some space between each cookie
Gently press down on each dough ball to flatten it slightly
Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden
Remove from the oven and let the cookies cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely
Once the cookies are completely cooled, use black decorating gel to draw creatures peeking out from cracks on the cookies
Attach edible candy eyes to create a fun and spooky effect
Allow the decorating gel to set before serving or storing the cookies
